Letter to my little brother who turns 16 today

Dearest Arnab (see I am using your good name),

You are 16 today and you must know how happy and proud I am for you now.
Not because you have just passed your 10th board exam with flying colors, rather because you worked hard and have shown resilience. But this letter is not to remind you of that.

This letter will be a piece of lessons which Pinky has to share with you. She has learnt them in a hard way (some of which you know) in the 14 extra years she has inhabited  this planet.

You are still a kid and part of the letter would obviously won't appeal much to you. Just remember to remember those lines, they may come handy at times.

1) Success is not measured by the marks you score in the examination. Marks are important and would be important till you are a student, but success is something much deeper and permanent than those. It is the ability to continue when you are beaten and broken.
It is not easy but BELIEVE in yourself and keep believing during hard times.

2) Trust the people who love you selflessly. It takes time to find them but they do exist. Learn to extend your hand first. Love the people who love you.

3) All our aspirations do not materialize. But that is okay. You may not get everything you want, or be everything your parents want you to be. That is okay too. Our goal changes, and that is called adaptation. Adaptation is not failure, it is key to a bigger achievement.
This is not a negative thought, this is the practical lesson, which you will face sooner or later.

Just remember, you are lucky to have a sharp mind, healthy body and lots of courage and resilience. Be thankful for that.
You are a HERO to me. I love you for what you are and I will keep on doing that, FOREVER.

 - Pinky
